Mona Al Marzooqi, M.Sc. candidate 2017

I attained my BSc degree in Environmental Sciences from Zayed University in 2012. I joined Water and Environment engineering program at Masdar Institute to broaden my knowledge and improve my research skills. I am interested in improving the quality and productivity of our soil.  Joining the LFY research group is giving me the opportunity to search and work on this topic. Currently, I am exploring the problems that confront the farmers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and looking for possible solutions to overcome them.

Saeed Alkhoori, M.Sc. candidate 2017

Even though my background was in Civil Engineering Technology, Nothing can get my attention like Botany. All grades of Green color represent life, at least to me. The amount of phenolics, antioxidants, and lignocellulosic components in most of U.A.E’s flora is unknown, is there a hidden treasure behind these tiny leaves that survives in one of the harshest environmental conditions? You see, that is where I get my curiosity. I gained my undergrad degree from Abu Dhabi Men’s College in 2014 and was eager to start a new path where my passion can be connected to science. I am currently carrying my Masters in Water & Environmental Engineering by focusing on examining several halophytic species to determine their potential use in pharmaceuticals and personal care products

Samar Al Jitan,  M.Sc. candidate 2017

I attained my B. Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering from the American University of Sharjah. After graduation, I joined the M. Sc. in Chemical Engineering program at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology.  I believe that Masdar Institute, with the availability of its advanced technologies and advice from its skillful faculty, will sharpen my research skills and expand my educational knowledge. My current research is focused on the extraction and analysis of bioactive components with nutraceutical applications from UAE native halophytes. Optimization of these extraction processes will reduce energy consumption and enhance product recovery.
